High Ground

Historical Fiction in the Old West 1847

   He who has the high ground has the advantage. Any rifle shooter knows this simple fact. 

   Tom Clayton is discharged soldier returning to Texas from the Mexican American War. Its 1847, any career Tom might have had in the Army is over. However, he has skills – Tom is a gunsmith by trade and has spent years in the Army proving himself as a marksman with a rifle. 

   Now he tries to start over in the newest state of Texas. But there’s trouble in Texas. Tom soon becomes involved with the politics, business, and way of life in the young state of Texas.

    This story is a return to the old west.  Where a man’s word was his bond. A time when we had laws but at times it took strong men able to shoot quickly and accurately to make things right. 

   This is the period when the breach loading rifles were developed. The Sharps rifle made by Christian Sharps became the buffalo gun. Read the blazing action and frontier adventures mixed with a touch of real history.
